IV. - TO KOSSOUTH.
AT HIS ARRIVAL TO NEW - YORK.
God bless you, noble Kossouth, heroe of the age, christian martyr.
In the name of the democrats of New Granada I salute you.
Your name has reached to the shores of my country. The history of your misfortune has drawn tears from the eyes of my countrywomen; and my brethren, admiring your deeds, hope yet to call you the liberator of Europe.
My country suffered, as yours, for centuries the opprobious yoke of Kings; as yours, it sweared to obtain independance and liberty; and eventually our just cause succeeded, so that we are now free and happy.
My native-land is a luxuriant wilderness in South-America. My brethren are the children of the forest, and we have but little to offer for aiding you in your gigantic enterprise ; but till the hour of redention is arrived, should the European democrats seek a shelter, in New Granada they will find a home, honor and liberty.
